Tales of the World Radiant Mythology 3 [PSP] extraction help. by Operandi at 1:56 PM EST on February 10, 2011
Greetings again. This game's ISO was released a few days ago and I've been adamantly trying to get access to the music files in the game. So far I've used AllMedia Grabber to extract a few thousand .wav files, though my standard method of renaming them to .at3 and converting them to real .wav files with HiMDRenderer didn't work. Also judging by the file sizes so far (I pulled about 17,000 files, around 400mb), I would say that most of these are just voice files when what I'm after is the music.

Regardless of my goals, I tried another approach (from here: http://www.pspripkits.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1175 ) using Hex Editor and Filescan 3.0, but the resulting files still came up with similar errors of either not being the proper bitrate for SonicStage or mentioning the RIFF header as an error. A contact of mine told me PSound will pull the voice files, but there hasn't been any breakthrough with music as of yet.

If it helps, the ISO has two large files, "NAMCO.MDI" (568mb) and "namco.BDI" (946mb), the latter of which I used for the Hex Editor method. I know this is probably a lot to digest, but can anyone lend me some direction on what the next step that I can take should be? I've been reading that Sony possibly compresses files WITHIN files, which really killed my motivation. Thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I was looking at the ISO also and can't get VGM Toolbox to extract much data from the Namco.bdi. It outputted a bunch of .PHD files such as "namco_01E0.PHD" but they are only ~ 4kb in size.

The extraction processed ends with an error after a minute or so

" Extracting PHD
Extracting MID
Error processing <E:\Drivers & Stuff\Music Backup\Tunes\Tales_of_the_World_Radiant_Mythology_3_JPN_PSP-Caravan\namco.bdi>. Error received: The given key was not present in the dictionary."

Yes there is also a Namco.MDI file elsewhere on the ISO but not sure that one.

Can someone take a look at this? I could upload the BDI and/or MDI files though they are large like the post above states.

Cheers

Well, afaik the Tales of the World series is all sequenced stuff iirc. There have been some tests in the past but I'm not sure if they were successful due to the nature of how the prx modules work. Especially since Namco likes to screw around with format specs and not follow them.

I wonder how they ripped parts 1 and 2?.maybe the ripper can do 3 since they have the know-how ;). I can believe they are sequenced but some files are huge in size so hope there were streams of some kind

I uploaded the namco.bdi in case someone wants to look at it, but it is 946mb ;-)

MEGA

In hex editor I did see parts which mentioned RIFF and WAVfmt

maybe through the emulator?

TotW 2 had encrypted RIFF headers, and required dumping the decrypted data for them from emulator savestates.
I tried doing TotW 3 as well, had no luck with the same method.

Thanks for your responses guys ;-)

I just had jpcsp output the audio. I'll finish the rest, trim them to proper size and number them later, but here's some samples.

RM3 Mini Set

Hopefully this method works with Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave.
