Partial Silent Hill 1 PSF rip by Nisto at 9:02 PM EDT on August 14, 2014
Nothing fancy about the rip - it's not really any different from what you would get by following the instructions mogikihei provided in the KDT1 research thread for every track. But I figured I'd provide something for the masses.
Not all tracks will play, as it's not the original driver. But maybe someone can get them to play somehow anyway? The tracks that will play are: C, D2, E, E2, H, H2, I, K, K2, L, P, Q, R, T, T2, X, Z.
So not even half of the sequenced tracks from the game.
I'm glad you're taking the initiative. I think there has only been an extractor for the "SILENT" file. The "HILL" file is pretty much just streamed audio, so you should be able to extract that too, anyway.
All the archives are untouched (not modified from when I downloaded them). So rest assured they're "reliable mirrors". Really can't remember where I found the SH1_sources archive though...
Yeah PS1/PS2 emulators still suck unfortunately. Another tool that may be helpful to you though, is MHS (Memory Hacking Software). The built-in debugger of e.g. PCSX2 is barely helpful. You can do some debugging with MHS also, among other things, but it may not be as easy to work with as a built-in debugger, because MHS doesn't read from the game exclusively obviously.
If you need some documentations, I might have some. I'll come back and post some if I find anything I think may be of use.
EDIT:
I could have sworn I had some PS1 docs laying around, but I guess not.. Here are a couple of official ones for the PS2 though. They should definitely still be of some help (especially if you're doing SH2/3).
Another thing came to mind - the PSYQ SDK. It includes some docs and even source code for some stuff. You can get it here if you don't already have it: http://www.psxdev.net/downloads.html.
