Slow usf Rips by Kurausukun at 6:21 PM EDT on September 27, 2014
Why hasn't anyone made better rips of the incorrect, slow versions we have now? I'm talking specifically about the Mario 64 and Zelda rips. I mean, those are popular games, but we've just been sitting around with these rips forever--why?

As I recall from some old post I found somewhere on here, they were re-ripped and it's a problem with the player, not with the rips. But there is even some uncertainty as to whether or not they do run slow, which is why I made a thread a few days ago asking for a recording of Ocarina of Time from a real N64. Can you provide a recording to demonstrate this slowness?

Yeah, and there was some fuss when the latest Project64 version was released and it was discovered to run fast compared to real hardware. I'm not educated about what the issue really is, but it's best to entirely distrust emulators on this question.
The only video I could find of Ocarina of Time that was said to be from a real N64 (not specified to be NTSC or PAL) and wasn't a side-by-side comparison with another version was this one, which has absolutely terrible sound quality. Nonetheless, I compared and the USF does run a little slow on the title screen music, by about .042% by my calculation. But a better quality, audio only recording from an NTSC console would be better because who knows if the video recorder or some part of the editing/encoding didn't effect the speed? A direct audio recording removes a lot of uncertainty and potential for going wrong.
EDIT: Forgot to check for Mario 64 before posting. That was easier to find and I got a very similar result with it, so that gives me more confidence about there being in fact a slowdown and by how much. Still wouldn't mind a recording though.
You might want to check out the runs from SDA. Here's the pages for MM, OOT and SM64. They're not "regular" gameplay videos but there should be enough material in there to make a comparison with one of the ripped tracks. All SDA videos are recorded on the original hardware, it's in their site rules.
