Problem about converting swd files by jiangzhengwenjz at 8:14 PM EST on November 14, 2014
When I want to get some music files with nitro explorer, I get some swd and smd files, which cannot be played by foobar 2000. Does anyone here know how to convert it into wav files? Great thanks.
Forgive my terrible English.:D

SMD+SWD are sequence files for Procyon studio games. They are unplayable at this time. It's a custom driver that does not follow the main spec.

So that is to say I cannot get sound files through it?

Playing the swd directly would not get you music. Just sounds. It's a bank that is used by the smd (midi data).

That is to say I can convert .smd to .mid and use .swd as bank in audio compositor? But how to get midi and how to convert .swd to .dls or .sf2? Thanks.

Another question: Many functions of vgmtoolbox require some specific files. For instance, Nintendo WAD unpacker requires ckey.bin, but the original vgmtoolbox does not include this file. For advanced cutter plugin it requires some .xml files, but I only found 2 .xmls for WII U and 3 .xmls for 3DS and didn't know whether they were enough. Can you tell me where to find all these files? Great thanks. :D

Regarding smd/swd, the format isn't as well understood.

ckey.bin is copyrighted and cannot be distributed with any software unless you want the party bus knocking on your front door. It's actual Nintendo property.

The plugins (xml) can be found scattered around the forum but no actual repository exists. It's easy to make the plugins as it's just saving a preset which means even you can make one. All you really need is a hex editor and understand the virtual file system for files you need to extract stuff from and then plug in values into vgmtoolbox.

Errrr, I do know that ckey.bin is not available online from your words. But if I want to get something in wiiware games, which means I must extract sound files from .WADs. So could you tell me how to extract sound files from .WADs?

Edit:I got common-key.bin but vgmtoolbox extracted some .bin files and .arc files and I do not know how to get sound files.

In addition, it's really challenging for me to write an xml because I do not know anything about the language and those xmls are different so I cannot know which one to follow and how to search strings.

Thank you for your patient answering! Could you please answer the question about extracting sound files in .WADs?

the bin files are, I guess, partitions of the game. One is the executable and the others are the rest of the data. One of them should contain the sound data. You need a U8 extractor for these files. I can't remember but I think VGMT had one.

Also, regarding the xmls, you yourself do not write an xml, when you make a preset in vgmtoolbox itself simply by entering values in the extractors, saving the preset makes the xml.

@bxaimc
VGMTOOLBOX does have a U8 Extractor and you means that I must get the .bin file and convert it into pcm file like what people do with .bnr sound, am I right?

For the xmls, I have a question that what should be the initial value I enter in the extractors?

Thank you.
