Band Hero - Obscure [IMF/ISF] files by RebeccaSugar at 2:23 PM EDT on March 8, 2015
I didn't want to bog up HCS with another new thread but I couldn't edit my first post so here we are.

Everything I ask here is basically so I can make collections like !!!!! does and not just to hoard them all to myself, pretty much anything I post about will be published and tagged...eventually.

Anyway, basically I'm trying to make this play since It's in 48k and that's pretty neat knowing how a small trickle of quality makes me go loco, especially with mainstream titles that are usually slightly downgraded to 44k, so what I'm asking here is if someone out there knew anything regarding this format, I got this from the PS2 version since I don't have the 360 one, I'll probably take a gamble and buy that one instead and rip it, hoping that the 360's audio extensions are different if the IMF/ISF's are TOO obscure for anyone to care.

Anyway, a bit of badly trained google fu left me defeated and I was only able to find this regarding it

It seems someone else other than I has had interest in this format as well, which is all and well and grand except that I can't understand Japanese, I've already translated a bit by machine and they are on the same predicament, the way it translates is confusing, they've probably solved it for all I know, so if anyone here knows a bit of moonrunes, that would really help.

Once more, here's a sample song, I couldn't make it work with gehn very much this time, so take it from me that it didn't do much, basically stayed the same, so that being said, It probably has a header, who knows, I don't.

Make this play right and I'll suck your dick

So either of those don't really play well with vgmstream? I might test them later but I'm too tired lol.
by RebeccaSugar at 9:27 PM EDT on March 8, 2015
Sadly, they do not work with vgmstream, it's pretty much a given I'll make a post about it if I can't find a way around it...heheheh.

I'm trying everything with my current knowledge to play them, I've translated the japanese page by machine but it's a poor translation and some download links there are expired.

I'll try gehn again but that probably won't help either, I've renamed the extension to .int due to the filesize giving me a gutty feeling of it being something similar, it manages to play with horrible static ala asterix but still isn't as audible as I'd like it to be, so maybe it would improve when edited via gehn with said .int extension, It's worth a shot.

I just know it should be some sort of uncompressed format, this is all speculation by the extension change though, but progress IS progress...

I think It's encrypted.

Take your time.

The ISF file plays with vgmstream if you rename the extension to .msvp, but it's chopped up somehow... (Also the sample rate is only 22050Hz) Not sure how you know it's supposed to be 48000Hz. Looking at the header (which is totally alien to me by the way, so just an educated guess) it seems it is supposed to be 22050Hz. I don't think you can get a 5(?)-minute song @ 48000Hz from a 4MB file either though, to be honest. It looks to me like both of the files you uploaded only contain standard Sony ADPCM audio..

I believe the isf is indeed 22k since PSX games use it as well, the imf on the other hand is nearly 50 mb, unless it's on an archive which I doubt then it's a higher quality than said .isf, I believe the length for the .imf is 4:31 according to foobar and command vgmstream, maybe, I extracted a similar file the other day which had a nearly identical size that had a 48k sample rate so there's that, you're helping me though, which is what really counts right now!

I'll fiddle with it more while I see what others can do.

I converted the IMF to GENH and it sounds to me like the IMF file just contains sound effects and/or production samples (which would mean the game is sequenced). Give this a listen and tell me if you recognize something: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48454461/aud/7052b61b.genh

If you recognize several songs from these sets of sounds, I would assume it's sequenced. Also, the sample rate (speed) might be slightly off, but...
by RebeccaSugar at 12:43 AM EDT on March 9, 2015
It definitely sounds familiar, It would be odd to have music from licensed deals sequenced...but stranger things HAVE happened with files in the past.

Anyway, I did what you did but to a different file and got a similar result, there IS singing so now I know it isn't sequenced, unless it's following that sequence correctly.

Anyways, here's another one, see what you can get out of it. I'll upload my own when I get close to something from an original song.

Crank the Interleave up to a 0x10000 and beyond, it's slowed down and slightly normalized for me this way with the Playstation 4-bit ADPCM setting, still chopped though.

I'm adding more channels, it's becoming more steady now, It screws but now the rhythm is staying for longer intervals.

Okay, so far: they are multi-channel, 6-7 to be exact and the voices become chipmunked for some damn reason, gonna fiddle even more, we're getting close

Don't bother with PS2/XBOX by maxton at 2:26 PM EDT on March 9, 2015
If you want to listen to the Band Hero songs, get the PS3 version of the game and rip it with a blu-ray drive.

They're stored as 48khz 128kbps MP3 files inside FSB containers.

The XBOX 360 version has 48 kHz XMA audio but don't bother with that, the compression artifacts are much more audible than the PS3 MP3s.

Codename Kids Next Door: Operation V.I.D.E.O.G.A.M.E by RebeccaSugar at 10:42 PM EDT on March 26, 2015
Alright then, thank you.

How about MIA files?

It has some odd aob/aos/aod extensions next to it as well, it gives me this info for them when opened in hex editor.

MIA: HVSIMIA (Whatever that is)

AOS: http://pastebin.com/kaqwL46v

AOB: http://pastebin.com/Mm7aT5AE

AOD: http://pastebin.com/uDTYmMsA

I've been able to extract .bins with VGMToolbox's built in Sony ADPCM extractor but it doesn't play right when converter to gehn, it sounds crystal clear but it skips, thankfully less worse than the guitar hero one.

I have it at PlayStation 4-bit ADPCM, 4 channels, 48kHz and 0x10000 interleave if that helps....

Here's a test if anyone gives a hoot.

If this doesn't work I'll upload the gamecube one which has a .GMD file extension.
