Thunder Force IV and Sega Genesis music players by Franpa at 11:34 PM EDT on August 6, 2015
1) What Sega Genesis *.vgm & *.vgz audio players are still currently in development?

2) Which music players, regardless of their development status, are able to produce sound like what is heard in this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psSamm93uCE

VGMStream produces poor audio compared to that video.

Edit: I wouldn't be surprised if the audio in that video is inaccurate but damn does it sound nice. Apparently various models of the Sega Genesis have wildly different audio systems too.

1) the vgm format and players (vgmplay and the Winmap plugin) are still being updated.

2) none, as the audio in that video is heavily edited with effects.

Where can I find a precompiled copy of the latest version of VGMPlay? The homepage seems dead http://vgm.mdscene.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112 so it's not really clear what the latest version is.

There's also this: http://vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112 which has no date other than 2011 and https://github.com/vgmrips/vgmplay which is 9 months old but no precompiled copies are available.

There's been a change in management as well as URL. The new address is vgmrips.net. That link, however, leads to the new Packs page, used as the default homepage, rather than the forum.

Not to worry, the site's in the best of hands since Oerg himself. Vampi's got a warped sense of humor, but you get used to it. Do register and try the Chatbox - it's addicting!

Oh, and the download site for the latest version of VGMPlay is here.

Ah okay, the problem with the forum is it doesn't list when a post was edited so it gives the impression that the version listed in the original post is super old. After navigating to the last page I can see it was released 2015-07-31.

Thanks.

Then again, it doesn't work. It seems the stand alone program requires dependencies which aren't mentioned or linked to in the forum? The Winamp plugin link seems to be dead too.

This is currently the latest foobar version: http://ux.getuploader.com/foobar2000/download/117/foo_input_vgm_0.24.zip

Sorry, not a fan of Foobar, I'd appreciate either a functional copy of the latest stand alone program or the Winamp plugin though.

Zophar's Domain I know has the previous release.

The link for the winamp plugin (http://vgmrips.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=112) didn't work? I just tested it and it downloaded fine. The stand alone player didn't require anything afaik(just tested also), perhaps just the zlib.dll that's included.

Both of them work for me without any external .dlls to download first.
