Pokemon Pearl is not supported by the Yoshi driver (same for Platinum), but if we could put the .SSEQs into a NEW .sdat, then it might work.
by bxaimc at 10:48 PM EST on November 17, 2008
I really doubt that'll work. Besides, how are you going to make an sdat?
by Dais! at 1:04 AM EST on November 18, 2008
Wow, the Ecclesia set is quite a ways off for a game whose soundtrack was only available as a limited edition bonus for the Japanese release.

What's the 'op.vx' file with Hoshigami? After a quick OST comparison, it's pretty likely to be the first track, "HOSHIGAMI Main Theme", but I haven't the slightest idea what format it's in.

Also, the Contact set is missing three sequences:

007d SEQ_BGM_LIASON
0040 SEQ_BGM_LABO_ZOOM
0065 SEQ_BGM_LIVE_GAYA

Now, 0065 is, appropriate to it's name, just the noise of a crowd, so I can see that being cut. However, I have no idea if the other two are SFX as well. Is there any way I can contact the person who made this set?
VGMTrans by Elven Spellmaker at 5:24 AM EST on November 18, 2008
Yeah I though so, still the question remains that people avoid, how does VGMTrans play them if the Yoshi Driver doesn't support them...?
by Knurek at 11:05 AM EST on November 18, 2008
DAIS, .vx files are ActImagine movies. Unplayable right now, I've included one in hopes that one of the VGMStream gurus manages to work something with it (like the Layton SADs for instance).

I'm pretty sure the two Contact tracks are also noise/sfx.

Also, please do not expect any more generic driver rips from me. Why?

That's the same track. First one from 2sf set, second wavewritten from original game played in Desmume

Oh damn, that's quite a difference. Hadn't done that comparison before. Any way to predict which sets would sound this different?
by Dais! at 12:34 PM EST on November 18, 2008
*facepalm*

Ah, emulation. If it worked perfectly the first time, what fun would it be?

Maybe over Christmas I should practice hacking stuff - maybe even work on creating GSF sets for games I otherwise want to record.

Hah!

I haven't been paying close attention. Do any 2sf sets currently use a custom driver? If so, it'd be nice if they could be marked/moved to a separate part of the manly page, so people know that they don't need to be re-ripped.

Oh, and you say it's an ActImagine movie - do you mean it's the whole movie file, or just the audio stream from it?

Anyway, two more questions, not urgent:

1. What specific tools are used to set up/pull apart a 2sflib? I know it's not a simple process, but I'd like to see what one looks like when you take it apart.

2. unknownfile, would you mind saying a bit more about your 2sf alternative? I don't mean to beg for details, but I think you can see how it's growing more interesting by the day.
by unknownfile at 5:02 PM EST on November 18, 2008
No 2sfs, from my knowledge, are custom driver rips except for Super Princess Peach (and some streaming driver stuff). I would get around to doing more rips if only I had the interest and patience. If you want to rip 2SF sets you're going to need the generic driver ripkit, which contains the tools and stuff needed to make a set, generic driver or otherwise.

SMSE2K is something I'm working on in my spare time, and is nothing more than a small workbench for MAME and MESS driver code. I'm not going to commit to finishing it, and even if I do manage to release an alpha version it'll just have rather basic drivers for 1980's systems before it gets into anything complex.

@UF: Yoshi's Island rip isn't a generic one as well, obviously. :)

@Dais: Try snakemeat's VGMToolbox, it's the easiest way to use the ripkit (most of the time just one click required to rip the game).

@snakemeat: no way that I see, and it's not like it's obvious. Only one track from the rip behaves like that (well, didn't check all, but those that are easily playable in an emu do match the 2sf set more or less). I mean, it's not as bad as a whole (checked lotsa other sets vs the OSTs and there were no noticable faults), still tickles me the wrong way.

I'll of course add any outside contributions (looking forward to some even, like the Chrono Trigger DS set). Just that I prefer to spend the time I'd use on the generic ones to learn how to use the proper game driver. The early results are in and, well, they don't look great but I do still have hope I'll be able to do it (or die trying).
