7z is 7-Zip, an archive file such as ZIP or RAR. I think new versions of WinRar can open it, but I prefer the official 7-Zip program.

bah, mouser beat me to it

Oh, more things by Mooshykris at 9:23 PM EST on March 6, 2007
I noticed, that also, some of the tracks have even higher quality than mp3s.

Oh, and thanks for the 7Z info.

I should hope they're higher quality than the MP3s. In general, the files played by in_cube are, pretty much, the files that the MP3s were converted from. Obviously, this isn't always the case. However, it's pretty close to the truth, considering the sound quality of these files.

Also, I liked UF's summary (in broadway form, no less!) of the development of in_cube. I could probably add some more details (scene 1: Star Fox: Assualt is uploaded [as I recall, this was the first DSP set HCS had available]), but I'm not bored enough to do so. I enjoyed the show!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the music, Mooshykris. There's some real gems in there (not a reference to Sonic GEMS, but I do like that one). I *highly* recommend you give the Beyond Good and Evil set a listen. It, along with Metroid Prime 1, is one of my favorites. Mouser X over and out.
Yup by Mooshykris at 10:29 PM EST on March 7, 2007
Yes, I kind of noticed that,

And Also, I am offering my help on these tracks.

I can't rip and compile, but one thing I can do is arrange and name the soundtracks.

edit: to the HCS Staff: reply here if you would like to take up my offer.

I, for one, appreciate the offer. However, if you were to do this, I would hope you did it using a batch file. That way, the process can be reversed, if one wanted. Personally, I like the ability to have both the original file names (as they were on the disc), as well as proper track numbers, and titles. While that obviously can't be reached at the same time, a batch file allows the option of either or, depending on your preference.

In other words, I say go right ahead. As long as the renaming is reversible. If you need some pointers/tips/help on batch files, feel free to ask. Mouser X out.

Also, it wouldn't be nice to have to download all the sets again for naming. So I would prefer a batch file.
Wow. Thanks. by Yoshinkeru at 9:07 AM EST on March 8, 2007
I was wondering exactly the same thing myself. Thanks for clearing that up for both of us, Mouser X and the rest. But the question still remains: does this mean it might be just as well grabbing a recording of the tracks (such as on Galbadia Hotel or elsewhere, or even doing so ourselves)?

Now that I have the 1337 ability to use the zlib compression algorithm, I may be able to use said compression on DSPs in a nice container format. Sound good to you?
by PokeParadox at 4:03 PM EST on March 8, 2007
Nah, transcoding reduces quality (unless you go to a lossless format) So IMO it's better to have the original files.

I would love bat files to rename the songs. Would it be possible to devise an external tag system for the dsps, etc too?(leaving the dsps unchanged and storing tags in a separate file)

And if ZLIBing will make a significant difference is size then sure knock yourself out Mr UF.
