Tales of Berseria PC - SPSIS14 Encryption by lapistier at 2:12 AM EST on November 11, 2023
Hello!

This is probably a long-shot, but I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice with the PC version of Tales of Berseria's sound files. My focus is specifically on SPSIS14, which contains voice files.

I've been able to play files from the PS3 version of the same game using existing tools, I can also play files from the PC version of the preceding game, Tales of Zestiria, so it seems they just did something to obfuscate Berseria's PC files specifically. I can't make out any headers either.

Samples: here

(The PC version is my only option since the PS3 version never got an English release, and I don't have the tools to unpack the PS4 game. Not to mention that, in comparing Zestiria's files, the PS3 version omits unused assets, which I'd really like to take a look at.)

I don't have the highest of hopes, since Berseria on PC is also notably missing from JoshW's archive, despite both PS3 and PC versions of Zestiria existing, so maybe it's just a lost cause. Nevertheless, I figured it'd be worth trying and asking.

Thank you!

i read the whole thread, and though i cannot help you with this whole "SPSIS14 Encryption" thing, you did state that you don't "have the tools to unpack the PS4 game".

in that case, you're in luck!

i used to write quickBMS scripts for PS4 versions of both Zestiria and Berseria, and they were all extensively tested under my watch. behold!

Whoa, thank you for the response and the link! I had no idea this existed. I won’t be able to test it out for a few more hours, but I’ll give it a shot when I can! I imagine the bulk of my issues will be unpacking the PKG archive to begin with, I’ve never messed around with PS4 files before, but judging from this note, once I actually get to the TLDAT file it should be smooth sailing.

Thank you! I’ll see how it goes in a few hours!

the 7z file you're about to download was a recent upload containing (as said before) two scripts i personally hoarded from myself. because i made them.

I thought it’d be harder to get into the PS4 files, since the tools I used only ever specified the PS3 and PC versions and at a glance it sounded like extracting PS4 games would be harder without a console, but it wasn’t actually that complicated and the old programs worked just fine. I’m still a little paranoid there will be something in the PC version that isn’t in the PS4 version, but for the time being I suppose the PS4 audio files will suffice. I’ll keep your quickbms scripts nearby in case the PS3/PC tools break, thank you!

If I end up finding something through your scripts, should I credit you with your username on this site?

yes, if only for historical reasons
