newest version of vgmstream causing other plugins not to work by Orion96 at 1:53 AM EST on January 22, 2021
Hey everyone! I've been using Winamp for many years as my music player, and I haven't had many issues with it until today. For whatever reason, a few of my plugins suddenly decided not to work. The first one I noticed wasn't working was my DSF plugin. I downloaded Chipamp, and that fixed most of the problems, but it installs an old version of vgmstream from 2013. I replace it with the newest version, and that fixes the vgmstream files, but then it causes multiple other plugins not to work. I'm not sure why this is suddenly happening, but I would appreciate some advice!

Look in vgmstream's options window if "enable unknown exts" is disabled. If it's enabled then vgmstream tries to open EVERY file type and prevents other plugins from handling the file.

Yep, that was it. I thought that did something else. Thanks!

Well, disabling that option can cause other files (which played fine until now) to not play because when some common encodings come in non-standard files (i.e. Vorbis-encoded streams in RIFF containers but unknown extension) vgmstream will ignore the file unless you change the extension to a supported one (or ".vgmstream" if nothing helps).
