What gives? by Katsur at 12:31 PM EDT on August 20, 2025
Ummm... why no file names for each sequenced PSF song? Is it for ease of file exploration? Granted, "!tags.m3u" works only on streamed audio files, but sequenced PSF also supports internal tags. I personally prefer original untouched audio file names.
Hello. Katsur and J2023. The original PSF files was ripped by Grin and i retagged it myself. I created a !tags.m3u for streamed tracks. Ape Escape 2 uses Sony's HD/BD/SQ (SSHD/SSSQ) file format (which is also in Ape Escape 1) hence Matrix's Wild Arms 2 driver was used as the driver for sequenced files. The driver was hacked to play these files in a correct manner. Not all PS2/PSX games using the HD/BD/SQ (SSHD/SSSQ) format work with Matrix's Wild Arms 2 driver.
.SPS files are a semi raw PCM format. The order of tracks follow the Jukebox in the game itself. This gamerip and my update covers all tracks from Japanese, US, and Europe(PAL) English versions of the game. Tracks that are named like this for example "908 Title Screen (Ape Escape).psf" are bonus tracks as well as tracks that are from overseas version.
Cutscene audio is in the DEMO folder of the PCM folder. Movie audio is from the MOVIE folder in the game.
