What part of "stream" makes you think that VGMstream will play the GBS file? GBS files are more of a "synth" (generated, not streamed. Not exactly sequenced either) format than it is a streamed format.

When you say "will not proceed to the next track", do you mean the next track in the playlist, or the next track in the file? If you're on "2/19" and push the "Next" button, it should then play "3/19". It works for me just fine, and I'm using the most recent version both NEZplug++, and Winamp. If, however, you want it to move to the next song on the playlist, then you'll have to do that manually, or use the keyboard shortcuts (it's in Winamp's "about" area, I think).

To me, it sounded like the problem you were having is that NEZplug isn't advancing to the next song in the GBS file. Is that the case? My experience has been that NEZplug works fine, in any version of Winamp. Though, I think that the way that NEZplug loads the files, it could result in it playing the same song numerous times. The problem that I think in_zip causes, is that in_zip extracts the file to a temp directory, and forwards that to Winamp. When NEZplug plays a file, it does so based on memory. If the file has already been previously played, then it will skip to the next song in that file. However, it reloads the file every time it goes to play it. Thus, because of how in_zip works, NEZplug never reloads the same file (it's in a different directory every time, since in_zip, having the file reloaded, extracts it to a new directory), and therefore thinks it's playing a new file, and never skips to the next song in the file.

Why I mention this, is because perhaps you have some plugin in place (I don't know what plugin could cause this problem) that's making NEZplug think the file isn't the same file you've previously played, thus making it so that it never advances to the next song in the file. Maybe an output plugin, maybe a DSP plugin, I'm just throwing out guesses.

Anyway, since it seems like your problem might be misunderstood (is it a problem of advancing to the next song in the playlist, or the next song in the GBS?), maybe you should clarify it a bit more. Maybe the problem isn't what we thought it was. Mouser X over and out.

My problem is that I press next, it goes to the next .GBS file. I can't proceed to track 2/XX and such in a file, I can only access 1/XX and it just goes to the next .GBS in my playlist.

Also, I know that VGMstream is only for stream/pcm based inputs, but it was just an idea that it could one day pick up other game audio formats and obsolete outdated plugins such as NotSoFatso and SnesAMP.

I did try a fresh new installation of Winamp with Nezplug, and it still didn't solve the problem. Unless the GBS is the last GBS in my playlist, I cannot advance through the subsongs in the GBS.

If you want more control over your subsongs, I recommend creating NEZPlug .m3u files which point to the individual subsongs in the .gbs file.

As marioman stated, it's always been this way. Unless it's the last (or only) item in your playlist, the next button will not work. VGMToolbox can make generic playlists for both NSF and GBS (and the currently unsupported SGC). It uses the header info to create an .m3u with every track in the file. Listening via the .m3u playlists, you can skip through files using the next button as usual.

Sounds like a plan then. I'll start typing up playlists from now on. Thanks for the help :)

Wow! It took me a few minutes of hunting things down (this PC isn't mine, and is really poorly equipped when it comes to audio players), but I can honestly say I'm amazed that you're right. I guess I've grown used to gen_bktb.dll (yes, it causes crashes. I use it anyway. Easily one of my favorite Winamp plugins, ever) and keyboard shortcuts. For some reason, I seriously thought that the "Next" button progressed to the next song in the file. I was wrong. However, pushing "b" on the keyboard, or clicking the next on the gen_bktb toolbar will skip to the next song in the list.

So yes, snakemeat's method will of course work (that's what NEZplug was designed for), but if you don't want to worry about the M3U lists, use the keyboard shortcuts (with Winamp as the active window, "z,x,c,v,b" for "previous, play, pause, stop, next"), or use gen_bktb (just beware that can, and on newer systems most likely will, cause crashes. I use it anyway, and rarely have problems. I haven't used it on Win7 much though).

Wow.... Yah, I can see how my misconception (I could have sworn that the "Next" button worked that way!) would cause problems. Sorry about that. Mouser X over and out.

Using NezPlug++ and if I try to open another file while one is playing, it will skip tracks until it hits the end. Annoying if you want to prepare another piece of music entierly just before this one fades out. =/

Not sure if it's worth mentioning but I have a issue with NEZplug v0.9.4.8 + 2 + 19.02, the Namco N106 emulation is severely broken... It sounds fine on a few official games but some sound really bad, and most if not all homebrew songs using the N106 are completely ugly sounding now. Also, the Famicom version of Rolling Thunder 1 sounds really bad too.

Megami Tensei II however doesn't sound half bad. But the homebrew NSF's using the N106 sound really fucked up..
