- Another plugin that doesn't seem to support the wonky rates is "out_mp3." I got it years ago, from somewhere at Winamp.com. If you have a codec installed, it will output the audio to a MP3 file, instead of the speakers. However, in the case of the SNESAMP plugin, it doesn't work very well (like, at all) because I have the bitrate, or refresh, or whatever it is, set pretty high (for SNES files that is). Since I didn't know what the problem was, or how to fix it, I had to output them to WAV files, and then use Cool Edit Pro (I think) to encode them into MP3s. It was a major pain.
Then again, I suppose it's the codec I used that doesn't support the wonky rates. Anyway, I've run into similar problems before, but only once has it been an issue. Basically, if I wanted to turn USF files into MP3s, a resampler could prove useful, otherwise, it's not something I need (though obviously, this plugin isn't developed for just me. I'm just saying it's works as is, for me, but that the added functionality of resampling could also prove useful, especially to others).
Just thought I'd let you know about that Koji isn't the only one that has had problems (with the sample rates). Mouser X over and out.

- Hey, guess what: I think I've found a solution to your problem.
I had always thought it odd that I didn't notice any problems with the plugin whereas you did, even though you had resampling enabled so it wouldn't possibly be a problem with your sound hardware. Then I noticed that you're using the dll version of out_asio, which stopped development back at 0.58, whereas I'd been using the exe version which is up to 0.62. So I switched to the dll version, turned on resampling, and pow! it crashes with Mario Kart 64 (and Mortal Kombat 4).
I don't know if this is a difference between the exe and dll version or if something was fixed between 0.58 and 0.62, but my guess is that your problem will be solved if you switch to the new exe version.
Also, Mario Kart 64 will work with Round Frequency enabled (but not Mortal Kombat 4, it must use some value for the dacrate that I don't support with round frequency yet, that'll be fixed in a moment), and both work (for me) if you disable resampling in out_asio. Therefore I conclude that it's a problem with the resampling code in out_asio that was later fixed (though I don't see any mention of this specifically in the change log, but maybe the babelfish translation hides it...)
So update your plugin!

This fixes Koji's problem, Mouser posted while I was writing this.
For the mp3 issue (since I've gone off the idea of resampling) I suggest you use the diskwriter, tell it to convert the output to a similar sample rate to the one the game uses, write a WAV, then convert via LAME or your favorite MP3 encoder. That's what I do.

- Not really. I tried with the EXE version as well, and I had the same results. I also realized that the EXE version was newer, so I'm now using that.

- son of a crap, you're right

- Well, that's OK, hcs, it's not your fault that Otachan makes faulty plugins. ;) Just don't sweat it.

- And you know what else is up? Josh ripped the PAL version of Mortal Kombat 4, which is why the frequency is bizarre (64th Note emulates an NTSC N64). I'll fix it to a round value, but it ain't quite right...
I'll also take a look at the out_asio source and see if I can't fix the resampling bug on that end.

nope, too complicated

- Why on earth the PAL version...? O O

- v1.0 b16 and source
round frequency is now stored in in_usf.ini, as I might have to add new dacrate settings to the list and there's no sense in rereleasing the plugin every time that happens. plus the easy user-editability.
It now includes a setting for Mortal Kombat 4, so that should now work with out_asio.
