"Cannot Find Decoder" When Transcoding with VGMStream for Winamp by biolizard89 at 1:06 AM EST on December 24, 2010
I apologize in advance if this is a stupid question; I've searched the forum and Google for several hours to no avail. Please have mercy on me.

I'm trying to transcode some ADX files with Winamp's format converter feature. I can transcode from other file types, but when I try to transcode from ADX files, I get the error "Cannot Find Decoder." The files play fine in Winamp using the latest VGMStream, so I'm a bit confused as to why they cannot be transcoded. A post on the Winamp forum suggests that this can occur when the input plugin is buggy (but I'm not certain if this is correct).

Is there a way to make Winamp's transcoder work with VGMStream? Is this a bug in VGMStream, and if so, is there any chance it will be fixed soon?

Thanks!

Are you trying to convert ADX to WAV?

I'm actually trying to convert from ADX to M4A. If I were converting to WAV I wouldn't need the format converter, I could just use the WAV output plugin in Winamp. Since I'm trying to transcode into M4A, I'm right-clicking on some ADX files in Winamp, clicking Send To -> Format Converter, and choosing a format to convert to. From what I gather from the Winamp forums, apparently input plugins need to have some functionality implemented for the Format Converter to work properly, otherwise the Cannot Find Decoder error shows up.

Any ideas? (Sorry if I'm a bit of a newb here.)

winamp sucks for converting, use the foobar2000 port, it works far better for transcoding to anything that there is a commandline encoder for

Fun fact : Winamps converter works so well for me I choose not to install it. Yeh, it's great if you're converting from mp3 to mp3 (or other basic streamed format) and that's about it.
