Welcome to the New Server by hcs at 1:13 PM EDT on April 25, 2006
This will be the new halleyscometsoftware.com as soon as I can get the domain name issues sorted out. Sorry about the downtime, but my old host really sucked.
Cookies don't yet work on the forum (since the domain isn't right), and I'm sure a lot of links are broken, I'll be working on those.
Anyone I was giving web space to should contact me to set up your new ftp account and get info on MySQL.
I doubt it. However, it would be cool if select/certain popular DSP sets were hosted on the site. Either that, or the less popular/smaller sets were hosted. I think that, distribution-wise, it would be better to have the more popular sets hosted on the server. But that might not be the best option, due to size, and bandwidth issues. As such, the torrents would probably be the main source of DSPs. However, for the smalller, and less popular sets, it might be okay to host on the web space. Because they're smaller, it doesn't take as much server space. Because they're not as popular, they won't take as much bandwidth either. And, being hosted on webspace, it might up their popularity because more people would be willing to get them.
Another possability would be to host only the newest sets, to help increase their distribution, or to help out the strain on the seeds. Taking that note, maybe a "DSP set of the week/month" sort of thing could be done, where certain DSPs are highlighted, and hosted, on the server.
Obviously these are just ideas on my part, but I personaly think that DSP hosting could be done. Just perhaps not all of them. Then again, what was the total transfered amount on the HCS tracker? I think it was, last I looked, somewhere between 450gb and 550gb. Being up since November, and the site now having 800gb a month, I guess it could be possible. It would be nice to free up some of the strain in the seeds. It would also be nice because it would bring back into distribution the non-seeded sets (killer7 for example. I didn't get it, and I very rarely, if ever, saw it get seeded. A few people tried to download it, but I couldn't help them on that one).
There's my thoughts on the subject. Mouser X over and out.
Yeah, I would kind of doubt that that 800 gig would be used up in a month. Personally, I think that a DSP server would work. I could be wrong though...
I think everyone needs to take into account the possibility that hcs won't want to host a whole hell of a lot more copyrighted audio than he already does.
