Workout music by hcs at 1:00 AM EDT on June 21, 2017
I've recently started on a light workout routine, and the only thing that keeps me going is music. Some of my favorite albums so far:

Crash Twinsanity (GENH link from PS2)
I will hopefully never get tired of the various madness on this soundtrack.

Not exactly VGM, but Impeccable Micro is a chippy dancey thing.

Goldeneye (USF link) has been nice.

The Black Mages is good for getting energy up.

S.S.H.'s Summer Vacation Game Music Festival (Youtube) is one track going nuts for 40 minutes.

Any suggestions?

Shatter gets my vote

Uhh. I don't know if you do much running, but for that I can't think of anything that would be more appropriate than "Hurry!!" from FFX, or alternatively, (as I like to think of it) - the predecessor - "Escape!" from Dewprism / Threads of Fate (same composer). :P

Massive quantities of vocal trance work for me. In the vgm-dom it's hard to recommend single albums (I'm partial to mixtapes of sorts) but Castlevania (Yamane) is good for mid-tempo songs, Harmony of Despair is a good best-of. Ridge Racer, Wangan Midnight and other racing series when I gotta go fast. Guilty Gear and BlazBlue are fun stuff. Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku series have many great high-energy songs. Sakuraba's endless battle themes are good source of motivation too, and other RPGs too, etcetera.

My favorite running/workout soundtrack is Labyrinth no Kanata, driving but at the same time trance-like tranquil.

Thanks for all the recommendations! I tried Shatter yesterday, very cool, it seems like there isn't enough going on but it still keeps the interest. Looks like the soundtrack is only $3 on Bandcamp, too.

Guilty Gear seems like a great idea, not sure why I didn't think of it yet, I'll try one of those today, maybe Labyrinth no Katana tomorrow which I hadn't heard.

I wonder if Twinsanity falls under "vocal trance" somehow with its semi-acapella. Maybe I should try some Smooth McGroove :)

Fwiw I'm not running at this point, I'm mostly doing time on an elliptical in my apartment building as it's a lot easier than even a treadmill. If I want to do some aerobic activity as frequently as possible easy is best.

The B versions of the End of Eternity battle themes always help me out when training.

Ooh yeah End of Eternity stuff is awesome, I have a separate directory for the battle tracks, on the list.

I think some Daytona USA music might be good to get you in the mood. Especially The King of Speed and Sky High.
