A couple of things about FFIII DS:

1. The unknown track is Chocobo Forest.
2. The first track of the OST is in the game - it's the intro.

I've tagged the Zelda: Phantom Hourglass tracks. Uploaded them over here: Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

There's one track that I can't get to play(zph-00a6), but based on the length and proximity to the Dungeon tune, I suspect it's supposed to be the short boring tune that plays mostly in monster free caves.

There is two tracks that have alternate versions which just remove one of the instruments or something(the quieter version of the Ocean theme that plays while the boat's not moving and a version of the "Navigating The Fog" track without the "voices")... Would it be easy to modify these tracks to play the alternate versions(by muting one of the instruments) or does the format make stuff like that less straight forward than one might think? Not a pressing concern as far as the PH set is concerned, but there's many tracks in the Animal Crossing Wild World set that would require that sort of tampering to sound "right".(Though because of the sheer number of tracks that require it I'd hardly expect anyone to bother in the case of that set... Just mentioning it in case it isn't already known.)

There also seems to be a problem with several tracks in various sets where a certain instrument will suddenly get loud when, if anything, it should be doing the opposite(It happens in the intro of the Linebeck's Theme track in this set, and I noticed it in a few of the K.K. Slider songs in the Animal Crossing set). Is the cause of this problem known?

Thanks for all the great work, guys! My playlist would probably be half the size(or worse, quality) right now if it weren't for all your hard work! :D

Based on that question, it sounds like you're not very familiar with the xSF format (PSFs, USFs, GSFs, 2SFs, etc.). No, it's not easy. In fact it's usually somewhat difficult. Because most 2SF sets are ripped using the generic driver, it makes it that much harder. That is, it requires altering numerous aspects of the 2SF, both the sequences and the driver (which is the generic one, not the original one) to remove/mute/alter the songs to match what you expect to hear. While what you ask is entirely possible (check out the Banjo-Tooie/Kazooie USF sets), it usually requires an in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of the driver for that game. Savestates of that particular song can come in very useful here.

One major problem is that very few people have knowledge that is that extensive. Unknownfile originally created the 2SF format, and the generic driver ripkit. Since then, he has done very little for that format. Almost all of the currently available 2SFs have been ripped with the ripkit, and thus require very little knowledge, if any at all, of how things actually work within the game. Uknownfile is (to my knowledge) the only one that might even come close to being able to alter 2SFs to separate dynamic songs into their various parts. However, and I mean no offense in this, I doubt he's (currently) capable of it (and even if he is, I strongly doubt he'd actually do it).

Perhaps that might not have fully explained things, but I do think it adequately answered the question. Hopefully it (slightly) explained the inner workings of xSFs a little bit. Mouser X over and out.

There was a furious diatribe against unknownfile here at one point, but since we've already had it out in the FTP thread, there's no point in keeping it.

I really doubt UF meant disrespect towards Knurek. I think he meant it more like SPCs. Sure, SPC is wonderful. It's easy to rip; anyone can do it. However, there are some SNES games that simply can't be ripped to SPC no matter how hard you try. This is why CaitSith2 worked on SNSF for awhile. With SNSF, you can rip any SNES game. One of the problems with SNSF is that it's more difficult to rip, and hundreds of games have already been ripped to SPC. This causes some people to say "Why SNSF? We already have SPCs!" and they ignore the benefits that SNSF brings.

I think what UF was trying to say is that the ripkit, while it does make ripping 2SFs easier, actually hurt the format itself because it caused people to ignore other (more correct) methods of ripping.

I completely agree that what Knurek has done is wonderful. I'm all for it 100%. However, UF does have a point here, in that because it makes ripping so much easier, it has caused people ignore the "proper" method of ripping 2SFs. That is, ripping them using their original drivers. If people were to do that, then more games might be ripped, because more people would understand the inner workings of 2SFs, and they would be able to identify games that use drivers other than the "default (generic)" driver. They'd also be more capable of separating and identifying dynamic songs easier as well (though I would still expect it to be a slight pain), due to this increase in their insight to 2SF ripping.

Hopefully that is what UF was actually trying to say, but said in a manner that not only doesn't ambiguously offend people, but actually makes sense. Mouser X over and out.

I wouldn't be surprised if you were spot-on, MouserX.

I think I'm done chewing UF out for the moment. Hopefully I'll never have to do that again because - believe me or not - I don't LIKE yelling at people. Sometimes, however, it's the only way to get a point across, and it didn't look like diplomacy was going to get the job done. :|

For me Wario's Woods is the only reason for the format and I'm sure other people have other reasons.

Hear, hear. I wish that someone would fix that rip so it plays right in Highly Competitive. (And fix HC so it doesn't crash as often.)

Seconded/thirded/etc. The only real benefit of SNSF I can think of (from the perspective of end users) is covering games that SPC can't. And that's already been done, to an extent.

I'd also like to see Sim City 2000 ripped at some point. Other than that, there isn't much else I'd want.

I feel similarly about MDSF.
