KHInsider policy on my new gamerips by DarkSolidSnake at 5:04 PM EDT on April 15, 2025
Today i would like to announce that a new policy will be enforced in all our new gamerips.
Due to various albums being taken down from khinsider including SEGA related IPs, our new gamerips will be strictly prohibited from publishing on khinsider including but not limited to:
Any game published by Sega Any game published by Capcom Any game published by Sega and Nintendo (e.g. Mario and Sonic). Any game published by Square Enix Any game published by Konami Any game with licensed tracks (including J-pop music).
This policy does not apply to any game published by Nintendo except for ones blacklisted on khinsider.
And also, the exact reason why all SEGA music got taken down from khinsider will be revealed in our re-rip of Rhythm Thief and the Emperor's Treasure. So please stay tuned!
2025 Very depressing in fact. So, where is vgmstream online? Would it be also taken down? That would be really the End :'( Or move playback to Discord & hope it wouldn't give problems in the future.
DarkSolidSnake's rationale is understandable, no doubt.
What's even more unfortunate is that VGMStream Online by Katie Frogs is no longer developed since 2023... and it still doesn't playback subsongs, TXTP, TXTH (only deprecated GENH) :(
Well, that's why I use DroidSound-E in my phone (my PC has Foobar2000 to run VGMStream), a serious upgrade of Kode54's DroidSound app :)
Speaking of DroidSound-E, it has full VGMStream support (TXTP, TXTH, subsongs included), OpenSLES (surround sound!), lots of sequenced/chiptune gamerip VGM plugins (including Amiga SCF, NSFL, PSF, etc), not to mention OpenMPT.
It has been comfirmed that KHInsider took down at least 366 albums or more than 500. Most of 'em are related to music from all games published by Sega, others are fan content.
Reason KHinsider took down all albums relating to SEGA music. by DarkSolidSnake at 11:43 AM EDT on April 26, 2025
Here's the reason why in case you are not interested of downloading one of my gamerips.
According to KHInsider, the author had a long conversation with two executives, one from Wave Master and another from Sega and in a board meeting, the executive from Wave Master was uptight initially but they warmed up at the concept of the site, it was a no, all their music have to be deleted. So no, this takedown is not due to a DMCA or a Cease and Desist letter.
The conversation was just part emails and part X with the Sega executive. Unfortuanently, KHInsider would not post this in a good form.
BTW, This occured between Sep 16, 2021 and a day later.
UPDATES to our policy. by DarkSolidSnake at 10:16 AM EDT on April 29, 2025
Update 1:
Here's a short answer about the takedown. Answer: KHInsider had a long conversation with Sega and Wave Master and they want their music deleted due to copyright violations.
Update 2:
The policy won't apply to gamerips of any game published by Nintendo excluding the following:
Any game published by Nintendo, but features content by SEGA. (especially Sonic) Any Nintendo game with licensed tracks.
