Duck Dodgers in the 24½ Century MIDIs by Yoshinkeru at 7:52 PM EDT on May 25, 2025
Is there anyone in here working on the N64 MIDI or Sound tools? I recently tried to convert Duck Dodgers in the 24½ Century to MIDIs, and while it got tempo and notes right, for some reason the note durations were way to long, only getting longer throughout the file. Is this the fault in the ROM or the tool? Can either be fixed/updated, or should I just live with it?
I tested the N64 soundfont and midi tools on these games:
GoldenEye 007 Pokemon Stadium Wetrix Gex 64: Enter the Gecko Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko Xena: Warrior Princess - The Talisman of Fate Rakugakids
While the tools work well on some games, there are still some problems... Some of the instruments in the extracted soundfonts don't seem to be in their proper pitch as in their respective game (until you find a way to fix them).
As for the Midis, GoldenEye 007's ones worked, while Gex 64: Enter the Gecko didn't find any sequenced music in the soundbank tool, only the jingles. Depending on the game ROM you have in-program, the results will vary from good to bad.
The one you extracted (Looney Tunes: Duck Dodgers) happens to have issues in the midis (unsure about it's soundfonts). You said that the tool got tempo and notes right, but note durations too long. I don't think the N64 sound tool would work well on some games, as fixing them will take lots of trial and error for someone more or less experienced... Didn't you try testing every regional release of the game on the N64 sound tools, or on vgmtrans?
I don't know if there are any other regional releases, in fact, the file name says "(USA) (En,Fr,Es)", and there aren't any other options in the MIDI tool either. BTW, the N64 MIDI tool I'm using says "Apr 24 2022", but I don't know if there's a later version. Like I said, tempo and note pitch seem accurate, but the note lengths just stretch and stretch for some reason. So yeah, I hope someone with experience with the MIDI tool can get back to us on whether this can be looked into or not, but if not, I can just try to edit the lengths myself.
I also did try the N64 Sound Tool on Duck Dodgers, and all those sounds sounded fine, too, so that's good.
